ACS Meeting at the Bat and Ball Inn - October 20th, 2007
by Andrew Hignell

DateLine: 21st October 2007

45 members of the ACS spent a thoroughly enjoyable day at The Bat and Ball Inn on Broadhalfpenny Down on Saturday October 20th.

Members met up from mid-morning at the home of the historic Hambledon club, before enjoying a delicious buffet lunch in the famous Inn.

After lunch, Roger Packham gave a fascinating talk about the origins of the club, and outlined some of the characters involved. With the use of some vivid illustrations, the distinguished cricket historian also outlined some of the misconceptions about the club and its players in the 18th century.

Mr.Packham also conducted a question and answer session, before the group ventured outside onto Braodhalfpenny Down, and thanks to Hampshire's Archivist Dr. David Allen, they were also able to look inside the modern pavilion, used by the Broadhalfpenny Brigands CC, which is situated on the famous ground.

The Secretary would be delighted to hear from any other members of the Association regarding suggestions, and locations, for similar meetings in the future.
