Absent
This designation is used when an innings is closed because at least one batsman who had not yet batted was not present to start his innings. It can only be used when the innings total is recorded as "all out". The designation is usually expanded to "absent hurt" or "absent ill". The batsman is not regarded as having had an innings for the purpose of his batting average, even though some scorecards show a figure 0 in the runs column when a batsman is absent. (See also did not bat.)
