Played on

A phrase used when a batsman has been bowled when quite unintentionally he or she has played the ball onto their stumps. It can happen when an intended drive produces an inside edge or a bottom edge. It also occurs when a batsman has played forward to a slow bowler, but the ball spins back and hits the stumps.
