The Statistician of the Year trophy for 1990 was presented to Richard Lockwood, who had been appointed the official compiler of first-class averages by the TCCB at the beginning of the 1990 season. One result of his work was the publication of The Cricket Digest of the Season. He had also been editor of The Cricketer Quarterly for some years. The ACS President, Richard Streeton, remarked that he was a young man who would no doubt be keeping the statistics of cricket – now computerised – long after the present committee has passed on.
Mr Lockwood thanked Mr Streeton for the award and said he felt very fortunate being able to turn a hobby into a full-time occupation. He hoped that he would be able to maintain the standards the ACS sought to achieve.
