Howard Clayton 1951–2024

Howard Clayton died on 1 December 2024 in Leeds General Infirmary. His name is probably best known to ACS members for his involvement in our Second Eleven Annual. He edited eight editions of the Annual between 2011 and 2018, and in more recent years was listed as its main compiler.

Outside the ACS, he was a stalwart of cricket in Yorkshire, where he was the county’s Second XI scorer for six years, and a major contributor of information, statistics and records for the Yorkshire CCC Yearbook.

Howard deputised when required as the county first-team scorer, and also scored for England Under-19s. He was a media scorer for the ECB and was at one time the longest-serving scorer for the ECB at the National Cricket Centre at Loughborough.

In a life full of cricket, he had a long association with the Yorkshire Cricket Board (including a period as assistant secretary), and was from 1994 to 2009 the secretary of the Airedale & Wharfedale League.

With thanks to David Warner for information on Howard’s career in Yorkshire.
